Migrate All Messaging Channels
Part of the Groove migration guide
Complete guide to migrating all your messaging channels (WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, etc.) from Groove.
Migrating All Channels from Groove
Groove supports email (shared inbox), a live chat widget, Facebook pages, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram DMs. It does not support WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, or Zalo on any plan. Migrating channels involves disconnecting social integrations from Groove and reconnecting them to your new platform.
Email (Core Channel)
Email is Groove's primary channel, handled via forwarding or Gmail OAuth. Update your forwarding rules or revoke OAuth access, then connect to your new platform. See the detailed email migration guide for step-by-step instructions per email provider.
Live Chat Widget
Groove's widget is embedded via a JavaScript snippet on your website. It provides a contact form, knowledge base search, and live chat (available on all plans). To migrate: remove the Groove widget code from your site — find and delete the <script> tag containing your Groove widget ID. Then install your new platform's chat widget. If your Groove widget included knowledge base articles, export that content separately to recreate as FAQ entries in your new widget.
Facebook and Messenger
Groove integrates with Facebook for page posts and Messenger for direct conversations. These connect through Facebook OAuth in Groove's integration settings. Disconnect these channels from Groove, then reconnect the same Facebook pages to your new platform. Your page followers, business verification, and settings remain intact — they're tied to your Meta Business account. Each reconnection takes 2–3 minutes.
Instagram DMs
Groove's Instagram integration lets you send and receive DMs inside the shared inbox. Like Messenger, it connects through Meta OAuth. Disconnect from Groove, then reconnect the same Instagram business account to your new platform. Your account settings and followers are unaffected.
Channels Groove Doesn't Support
Groove has no native integration for WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, or Zalo on any plan. If your customers use these platforms, switching to a platform with native support opens entirely new channels. Telegram connects via a bot token (2 minutes to set up), Discord via bot token + app ID, Zalo via OAuth, and WhatsApp via Meta's embedded signup — these are all net-new channels you gain by switching, not channels you need to migrate.
Migration Order
Start with the live chat widget (quick swap — just replace the embed code). Next, migrate Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram (low-risk OAuth reconnections). Save email for last since it's Groove's primary channel and carries the most traffic. Set up your new messaging channels (WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Zalo) in parallel — there's nothing to disconnect from Groove for these.
Key insight: Because Groove is primarily email-focused, switching platforms is also an opportunity to expand your channel coverage. Most of the migration work involves reconnecting existing channels, while messaging apps are entirely new additions.
