How to Export Your Data from Tawk.to

Tawk.to provides separate export paths for contacts (CSV), chat messages (JSON), and tickets (JSON). There is no single bulk-export button — you handle each data type individually from the dashboard. Admin access is required, and all exports must be done from a desktop browser or the tawk.to desktop app.

Export Contacts (CSV)

In the tawk.to dashboard, select your property, then click Contacts in the left navigation bar. Choose People in the left menu. In the upper right corner, click the Export icon. Tawk.to processes the export and sends you an email with a download link for a .csv file containing all contact information for that property — names, emails, phone numbers, locations, IP addresses, and any custom fields you've collected via pre-chat forms. This cannot be done from the mobile app.

Export Chat Messages (JSON)

Navigate to Inbox in the left sidebar. The Inbox shows four tabs: Chats, Tickets, Trash, and Spam. Use the Filter icon to narrow results by agent, status, tag, or date. Select individual chats using checkboxes, or tick the top checkbox to select all visible. Click Export in the upper right, enter a recipient email address, and click Send. The recipient gets an email with a link to download a ZIP file containing JSON files with message timestamps, visitor names, agent names, and message content. You can export up to 50 messages at a time from the UI.

Bulk Export via REST API

For larger exports exceeding the 50-message UI limit, tawk.to offers a REST API that lets you retrieve chat data programmatically. You'll need to enable API access in your dashboard and generate an API token. The API supports retrieving chats, tickets, contacts, and property information. This requires coding knowledge — tawk.to doesn't provide a point-and-click bulk export for conversation histories beyond the 50-at-a-time limit.

Export Tickets

Tickets follow the same export flow as chats. In the Inbox, switch to the Tickets tab, select the tickets you want, and click Export. The same 50-item limit applies per export batch. If you use tawk.to's email ticketing (forwarded support emails), make sure to export these separately from live chat conversations.

Document Knowledge Base Articles

Tawk.to's built-in knowledge base doesn't have a native bulk export option. If you've created help articles, copy each article's content manually or use the REST API to retrieve them. Save the content so you can repurpose it as FAQ entries in your new platform's chat widget or as training data for AI features.
