Migrate All Messaging Channels
Part of the Groove HQ migration guide
Complete guide to migrating all your messaging channels (WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, etc.) from Groove HQ.
Migrating All Channels from Groove HQ
Groove supports a limited set of channels: email, live chat widget, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram DMs. It does not offer WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Zalo, or SMS. Switching to a platform with broader channel coverage means migrating your existing channels and gaining access to entirely new ones.
Email (Your Primary Channel)
Email is Groove's core channel. Redirect your forwarding rules from your email provider to your new platform's inbound address. If you used Groove's Gmail shared mailbox OAuth connection, disconnect it in Groove first, then connect the same Gmail account to your new platform. Your email provider retains all messages as a backup regardless of the switch.
Live Chat Widget
Groove's widget is installed via a JavaScript snippet on your website (or through platform-specific guides for Shopify, WordPress, and Google Tag Manager). Remove the Groove widget code from your site and replace it with your new platform's chat widget snippet. If you used Groove's Knowledge Base integration within the widget, you'll need to recreate FAQ content in your new platform's widget configuration.
Facebook Messenger and Instagram DMs
Groove connects Messenger and Instagram through Meta OAuth. To migrate, go to Settings → Channels → Chat & social in Groove, click the channel name, then navigate to the Advanced tab and delete the channel. Then connect the same Facebook page and Instagram account to your new platform via its Meta OAuth flow. Your page followers, business verification, and post history remain intact — they belong to your Meta account, not Groove.
Channels You'll Gain
Groove has no support for WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Zalo, or SMS. By switching to a platform with broader coverage, you open new customer communication channels without any migration effort — simply connect them fresh. Telegram takes about 2 minutes (bot token), Discord takes 2 minutes (bot token + app ID), and WhatsApp takes about 5 minutes (Meta OAuth flow).
Migration Order
Start with your lowest-volume channel — likely Instagram DMs or Messenger. Verify messages route correctly to your new platform before migrating email (your highest-volume channel). Set up new channels like WhatsApp and Telegram last, after your team is comfortable with the new interface.
Important: Groove's live chat conversations and Messenger/Instagram message history stay in Groove's system. Export your conversation data before canceling your account if you need historical records.
