Export Your Data
Part of the Missive migration guide
Learn how to export your customer data, conversation history, and contacts from Missive before migrating to a new platform.
How to Export Your Data from Missive
Missive does not offer a one-click bulk export for all your conversations and contacts. Your primary export paths are through the Missive API (available on the Productive plan and above), your underlying email provider, and manual documentation of workflows.
Export Contacts via Synced Providers
Missive syncs contacts with Google Contacts and Office 365 Contacts. If you use either of these, your contact data already lives in those services and can be exported directly from Google Contacts (as CSV or vCard) or from Microsoft People (as CSV). Missive also maintains shared and private address books within the app, but exporting these requires the API.
Export Conversations via the API
On the Productive plan ($24/user/mo) or above, you have access to Missive's REST API. Use the Conversations and Messages endpoints to programmatically retrieve conversation threads, message bodies, attachments, labels, and assignments. This requires developer resources — there is no self-service export button in the Missive UI for conversations.
Export Email History from Your Provider
Since Missive connects to your existing email accounts (Gmail, Office 365, IMAP), your email conversation history still lives in those services. You can export emails directly from Gmail (via Google Takeout) or Outlook (via PST export). Missive doesn't store a separate copy — it reads from your email provider in real time.
Document Workflows Manually
Missive does not export rules, canned responses, labels, or team space configurations. Screenshot or manually copy your automation rules, canned response templates, label structures, and workload balancing settings before canceling. You will need to recreate these in your new platform.
WhatsApp and SMS History
Conversations from WhatsApp, SMS, Instagram, and Messenger in Missive are only accessible through the API. These messages are not stored in your email provider, so if you need this history, extract it via API before canceling your Missive subscription.
Tip: If you are on Missive's Starter plan (no API access), contact Missive support at [email protected] to request a data export before canceling. Start this process early to allow processing time.
