Migrate Your WhatsApp Conversations
Part of the Crisp migration guide
Step-by-step guide to moving your WhatsApp Business conversations and contacts from Crisp to a new platform.
Moving WhatsApp Business from Crisp
Crisp's WhatsApp integration is available from the Essentials plan ($95/mo) and connects through Meta's embedded signup flow. Your phone number and WhatsApp Business Account are tied to your Meta Business Manager — not to Crisp — so they survive the switch.
Step 1: Review Your WhatsApp Setup in Crisp
In your Crisp dashboard, go to Settings → Workspace Settings → Setup & Integrations and find the WhatsApp section. Note which phone numbers are connected and which Meta Business Account they're associated with. Crisp requires admin access to Meta Business Manager for the initial setup, so verify you still have that access before starting the migration.
Step 2: Prepare in Meta Business Manager
Log into Meta Business Manager → WhatsApp Manager at business.facebook.com/wa/manage. Verify your WhatsApp Business Account ownership and phone number verification status. If two-factor authentication is enabled on the WABA, you may need to disable it before initiating the migration — Meta requires this for BSP transfers.
Step 3: Disconnect from Crisp
In Meta's WhatsApp Manager, navigate to the Phone numbers section. Find the number you want to migrate and remove it from Crisp's webhook routing. This can be done by deleting the phone number association in the WhatsApp Manager or by removing the WhatsApp integration from Crisp's Settings → Setup & Integrations panel. Allow a few minutes for the disconnection to propagate.
Step 4: Connect to Your New Platform
Use your new platform's WhatsApp OAuth flow to reconnect the same phone number. Your verified business status, display name, and profile carry over — they're stored in Meta's system, not Crisp's. The connection typically takes 2–5 minutes once the number is released.
WhatsApp Template Messages
If you used Crisp to send WhatsApp template messages (via the REST API's POST endpoint for template messages), note your approved templates. Templates are stored in Meta's system and remain available after switching platforms. However, you'll need to configure your new platform to reference the same template names and parameters.
Important: Plan the switchover during low-traffic hours. There's a brief gap (typically minutes, sometimes up to a few hours) between disconnecting from Crisp and connecting to your new platform where incoming WhatsApp messages won't be routed to any inbox.
