Compare Pricing Before Switching
Part of the Olark migration guide
Compare Olark's per-seat pricing against flat-rate alternatives to understand the real cost of switching.
Olark Pricing: What You Actually Pay
Olark's $29/seat/month headline looks affordable, but per-agent billing, paid add-ons (PowerUps), and separate WhatsApp/SMS pricing mean the real cost of running Olark climbs quickly — especially for teams that need more than basic website chat.
Two Plans, Per-Seat Billing
Standard ($29/seat/month billed monthly, $23/seat/month annually, $19/seat/month biennially): includes customizable chatbox, advanced reporting, chat transcripts, shortcuts, automated messages, agent groups, integrations, and API access. Pro (custom pricing, contact sales): includes everything in Standard plus all PowerUps, AI chatbot (Aiden), dedicated account manager, live training, and priority support. A Free plan exists but is extremely limited — 1 agent, 20 chats per month, no visitor list, no shortcuts, no automated messages, no reporting, no transcripts, no integrations, and no API access.
PowerUps: $29-$99/Month Each
Olark sells four PowerUp add-ons separately from the base plan: Visitor Cobrowsing ($99/month) lets agents see visitor screens in real-time, Visitor Insights ($59/month) provides social profile and company data from FullContact, Live Chat Translation ($29/month) adds automatic language detection and real-time translation, and Non-Branded Chatbox ($59/month) removes the "Powered by Olark" branding. A team needing cobrowsing and translation adds $128/month on top of per-seat costs. Pro plan includes all PowerUps, but requires custom pricing.
WhatsApp and SMS: Separate Pricing
Olark's WhatsApp and SMS integration is only available on the Pro plan and carries its own pricing tier: $100/month for 1 phone number and 1,000 messages, $200/month for 4,000 messages, or $400/month for 10,000 messages. This is on top of the Pro plan's custom per-seat pricing. A team using WhatsApp through Olark pays both the per-agent base price and the messaging add-on — costs that make omnichannel support significantly more expensive than the base chat price suggests.
Real Cost for a Growing Team
A 5-agent team on the Standard plan (monthly billing) pays $145/month for website chat only. Add Live Chat Translation ($29/month) and the total reaches $174/month. A 10-agent team hits $290/month for Standard — plus any PowerUps. For Pro with WhatsApp, the combined cost for a 5-agent team could easily exceed $300-400/month depending on the custom quote and messaging volume. Converge offers flat $49/month pricing for up to 15 agents with native WhatsApp, AI suggestions, and translation included — no add-ons, no per-seat fees.
The Free Plan Trap
Olark's free plan caps at 20 chats per month with a single agent. It excludes shortcuts, automated messages, reporting, transcripts, integrations, and API access — making it unsuitable for any business with real customer traffic. Most teams outgrow the free plan within days and must commit to $29/seat/month to get basic functionality like saved responses and conversation search.
