Export Your Data

Learn how to export your customer data, conversation history, and contacts from LiveChat before migrating to a new platform.

How to Export Your Data from LiveChat

LiveChat has no single "export everything" button. You'll use a combination of the Chats Exporter marketplace app, built-in raw data exports, and the REST API depending on what data you need.

Export Chat Transcripts (Marketplace App)

Install the Chats Exporter app from the LiveChat Marketplace ($7/mo per agent, developed by Tweak Chat). Open the app, select your filtering options — groups, date range, and tags — then choose JSON for full chat history or CSV for metadata and quick analysis. The app processes the export and saves the file in your chosen format. Note: one user review reports the CSV export may not include full transcript text, so verify with a small export first.

Export Raw Data (Built-in Reports)

Go to Reports → Generate Report in the LiveChat app. You can export Chats, Queue abandonment, Goals, and Tickets data as CSV files. Chat exports include conference ID, timestamps, visitor details, agent info, pre/post-chat survey data, tags, and custom variables. There's a 100,000 record limit per export — for larger datasets, use the custom date range filter to export in batches. You can also schedule automatic raw data exports (daily, weekly, or monthly) sent to your email. Reporting requires the Team plan or higher — Starter plan users have no access to reports.

Export via REST API

LiveChat's Configuration API at platform.text.com/docs provides programmatic access to chat archives, customer data, and agent information. This is the most comprehensive export method but requires development resources. Community tools like livechat-to-s3 (a Go script on GitHub) automate bulk chat exports via the API.

Chat History Limitations

If you're on the Starter plan, LiveChat only retains 60 days of chat history. Older conversations are permanently deleted. Export your data before it's gone. Team, Business, and Enterprise plans have unlimited chat history retention.

Ticket Data (Now in HelpDesk)

LiveChat's native ticketing system was sunset in January 2025. If you used tickets, your data has been migrated to HelpDesk (a separate Text product). Export ticket data from HelpDesk's own reporting interface, not from LiveChat. If you're on a legacy plan that still shows tickets, export that data immediately.

Document Canned Responses and Automations

Canned responses, campaigns (automated greetings), routing rules, and ChatBot flows cannot be bulk-exported. Screenshot or manually copy each canned response, note your campaign triggers and conditions, and document any ChatBot automation flows. If you use the separate KnowledgeBase product, copy your help articles as well — there's no bulk export for that either.

Tip: Before exporting, list all active marketplace apps and integrations in your LiveChat account (Shopify, Salesforce, HubSpot, etc.). These third-party connections won't transfer — you'll configure equivalent integrations on your new platform separately.
