Migrate All Messaging Channels
Part of the LiveChat migration guide
Complete guide to migrating all your messaging channels (WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, etc.) from LiveChat.
Migrating All Messaging Channels from LiveChat
LiveChat natively supports its chat widget, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp Business (via 360dialog), Instagram, Apple Messages for Business, and Twilio SMS. Telegram is available only through paid third-party marketplace apps, and there's no Discord or Zalo support.
Chat Widget
LiveChat's widget is installed via a JavaScript code snippet, plugins for Shopify/WooCommerce/WordPress, or Google Tag Manager. To migrate, remove the LiveChat snippet from your website and replace it with your new platform's widget code. If using a CMS plugin, deactivate the LiveChat plugin and install your new provider's plugin. Both widgets can technically run in parallel during testing, but it may confuse visitors to see two chat widgets.
Facebook Messenger
LiveChat connects to Messenger via your Facebook Page. Go to your Facebook Page's Settings → Integrations and remove the LiveChat app's permissions. Then connect the same Facebook Page to your new platform using their OAuth flow. Your Page and its message history on Facebook remain intact — only the routing changes.
Instagram for Business
Similar to Messenger — LiveChat connects to Instagram DMs via your linked Facebook/Instagram Business account. Disconnect from LiveChat's integration settings, then reconnect the Instagram account to your new platform. Direct messages, story mentions, and replies will route to the new platform once connected.
WhatsApp Business
This is the most complex channel to migrate because it goes through 360dialog as the BSP. See the dedicated WhatsApp migration guide for detailed steps. Budget 1-3 business days for the 360dialog disconnection process.
Twilio SMS
If you use SMS through LiveChat's Twilio integration, you'll need to reconfigure your Twilio webhook URLs to point to your new platform instead of LiveChat. Your Twilio account, phone numbers, and messaging service remain yours — you're just changing where messages route to.
Telegram (Third-Party Marketplace App)
LiveChat doesn't have native Telegram support. If you use Telegram through marketplace apps like Telegramer 3 or Telegram for Business (by LiveChat Integrations), uninstall those apps and connect your Telegram bot directly to your new platform using your bot token. This is straightforward since the bot token is yours and not tied to LiveChat.
Channels You Can Add
LiveChat has no native support for Discord or Zalo. If your business uses these channels, switching to a platform with native support means you'll be adding channels, not migrating them. LiveChat also lacks native Telegram — only third-party marketplace apps provide it.
Migration order: Start with your lowest-volume channel (likely Apple Messages or SMS) to test the process. Migrate Messenger and Instagram together since they share the same Meta permissions. Save WhatsApp for last since it has the longest disconnection timeline.
