Migrate Your WhatsApp Conversations
Part of the Whelp migration guide
Step-by-step guide to moving your WhatsApp Business conversations and contacts from Whelp to a new platform.
Moving WhatsApp Business from Whelp
Whelp's WhatsApp Business API integration is available on the Standard plan ($29/seat/mo) and above. Your WhatsApp phone number and business verification are tied to your Meta Business Manager account — not to Whelp — so they survive the platform switch. The migration involves a BSP (Business Solution Provider) transfer through Meta's system.
Step 1: Review Your WhatsApp Setup in Whelp
In your Whelp dashboard, locate your WhatsApp Business API integration settings. Note which phone number is connected and which Meta Business Manager account it's associated with. Verify that you have admin access to both your Meta Business Manager (business.facebook.com) and the WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) within it. Whelp acts as a BSP that routes WhatsApp messages through their system — switching platforms means transferring that routing.
Step 2: Prepare in Meta Business Manager
Log into Meta Business Manager → WhatsApp Manager at business.facebook.com/wa/manage. Confirm your WABA ownership and phone number verification status. Key things to check: your display name approval, business verification status, messaging limits, and quality rating. These are stored in Meta's system and transfer with your number. If two-factor authentication is enabled on the WABA, you may need to disable it temporarily — Meta requires this for BSP migrations. Your message templates, quality rating, and messaging limits carry over since they belong to Meta, not Whelp.
Step 3: Disconnect from Whelp
Remove the WhatsApp integration from your Whelp account settings. In Meta's WhatsApp Manager, navigate to the Phone numbers section and remove the number from Whelp's webhook routing. This releases the number so it can be connected to another BSP. Allow a few minutes for the disconnection to propagate through Meta's system. During this window, incoming WhatsApp messages won't route to any platform.
Step 4: Connect to Your New Platform
Use your new platform's WhatsApp OAuth flow to reconnect the same phone number. The embedded signup process registers your number with the new BSP. Your verified business status, display name, and profile photo carry over — they're stored in Meta's system. The connection typically takes 2–5 minutes once the number is released from Whelp.
Template Messages and Chatbot Flows
WhatsApp message templates (pre-approved messages for outbound communication) are stored in Meta's system and remain available after switching. However, if you used Whelp's chatbot builder to automate WhatsApp conversations, those chatbot flows are Whelp-specific and won't transfer. Document your automated WhatsApp flows before disconnecting so you can recreate equivalent automation on your new platform.
Important: Plan the switchover during low-traffic hours. There's a brief gap (typically minutes, potentially up to a few hours) between disconnecting from Whelp and connecting to your new platform where incoming WhatsApp messages won't be routed. Also note that Whelp's WhatsApp integration incurs per-conversation charges from Meta that are separate from the subscription — verify whether your new platform handles Meta billing differently.
