Compare Pricing Before Switching
Part of the Whelp migration guide
Compare Whelp's per-seat pricing against flat-rate alternatives to understand the real cost of switching.
Whelp Pricing: What You Actually Pay
Whelp uses per-seat pricing across four tiers. The Free plan is limited to a single seat, and most messaging channel integrations require the Standard plan ($29/seat/mo) or higher. AI chatbot features are locked behind the Advanced plan at $79/seat/mo — and WhatsApp carries additional per-conversation charges from Meta on top of your subscription.
Four Tiers with Steep Feature Gating
Free ($0): 1 seat only, live chat widget, unified inbox, unlimited conversations, and mobile apps. No email, no WhatsApp, no Telegram, no social channels — just basic website chat. Standard ($29/seat/mo): Unlocks WhatsApp Business API, Telegram, Facebook Messenger, Instagram Direct, email, and Twilio SMS/voice integration. This is the first tier where omnichannel support actually works. Advanced ($79/seat/mo): Adds Instagram and Facebook comments integration, Whelp AI, Dynamic Chatbot builder, dedicated account managers, and mobile SDKs. Premium (custom pricing): On-premise deployment, whitelabel, custom features, personalized SLA, and dedicated onboarding.
WhatsApp's Hidden Cost Layer
Whelp's pricing page includes a critical footnote: "Businesses using the WhatsApp Business Platform are charged per conversation and monthly, these costs are not included." This means your WhatsApp costs have two components: Whelp's per-seat subscription fee plus Meta's per-conversation charges. Meta's rates vary by conversation category (service, marketing, utility) and country. For a team handling 500 WhatsApp conversations per month, Meta's charges alone can add $25-150/mo depending on your market — on top of the $29-79/seat Whelp fee.
The $50/Seat AI Jump
Whelp's chatbot builder and AI automation features require the Advanced plan at $79/seat/mo — a $50/seat increase over Standard. For a 5-agent team, this means going from $145/mo to $395/mo just to access the chatbot. If you need AI capabilities for customer support automation, there's no way to add it incrementally — it's an all-or-nothing tier upgrade that affects every seat.
Real Cost Scenarios
A 5-person team on Standard: $145/mo ($1,740/yr). The same team on Advanced for AI features: $395/mo ($4,740/yr). A 10-person team on Standard: $290/mo. On Advanced: $790/mo. Add WhatsApp per-conversation charges and these numbers climb further. Annual billing saves 20%, bringing Standard to ~$23/seat and Advanced to ~$63/seat — but requires upfront yearly commitment.
Flat-Rate Alternative
Converge charges $49/month flat for up to 15 agents with all features included — AI reply suggestions, all messaging channels, auto-routing, and no per-conversation add-ons. A 5-agent team saves $1,152/year compared to Whelp Standard, or $4,152/year compared to Whelp Advanced. No tier decisions, no per-seat math, no surprise WhatsApp charges from the platform side.
