Migrate All Messaging Channels

Complete guide to migrating all your messaging channels (WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, etc.) from Helpshift.

Migrating Channels from Helpshift

Helpshift's channel support is fundamentally different from most customer support platforms. It operates through native SDKs embedded in mobile apps and games (iOS, Android, Unity, React Native, Unreal Engine, Cocos2d-x, Xamarin), a Web Chat widget, email forwarding, and PC/Console support via QR codes. It does not support external messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, Instagram, Discord, or Zalo.

In-App SDK (Mobile & Game Engines)

Helpshift's primary channel is the native SDK integrated into your app's codebase. SDK X supports Android, iOS, Unity, React Native, Unreal Engine, Cocos2d-x, and Xamarin. Removing Helpshift means updating your app code to remove the SDK dependency, which requires a new app build and release. If you're switching to a different in-app support tool, you'll integrate the new SDK in its place. If you're moving to messaging-based support entirely, you can remove the SDK and direct users to WhatsApp, your website widget, or other channels instead.

Web Chat Widget

Helpshift's Web Chat embeds via a JavaScript snippet that loads webchat.helpshift.com/webChat.js and initializes with your platformId and domain. To migrate, remove this script from your website's </body> tag and replace it with your new platform's chat widget code. The widget is configured in the Helpshift Dashboard under Settings > App > Web Chat. Make sure "Show Web Chat Widget" is disabled before removing the script to avoid errors.

Email Support

Email flows through forwarding addresses at *.mail.helpshift.com. Redirect forwarding rules to your new platform's inbound email address. See the email migration guide for detailed DNS and forwarding steps.

PC & Console (QR Code)

Helpshift offers a patented QR code feature for PC and console games — players scan a QR code on screen to open support on their mobile device with full game context. This is Helpshift-specific and doesn't carry over. If you need console/PC support on your new platform, you'll need to implement an alternative flow, such as directing players to a support website or linking to messaging channels.

Channels You Gain by Switching

Since Helpshift doesn't support external messaging platforms, migrating opens up entirely new channels: WhatsApp Business, Telegram, Facebook Messenger, Instagram DMs, Discord, and Zalo. For businesses whose customers prefer messaging apps over in-app support, this represents a fundamental improvement in reachability. Each channel connects in 2-5 minutes via OAuth or bot tokens.

App release planning: Removing the Helpshift SDK from your mobile app requires a new app store release. Plan this alongside your migration timeline — submit the updated app build once your new support channels are fully operational, so there's no gap in coverage.
