Migrate Your WhatsApp Conversations
Part of the HappyFox migration guide
Step-by-step guide to moving your WhatsApp Business conversations and contacts from HappyFox to a new platform.
Migrating WhatsApp from HappyFox's Twilio Integration
HappyFox connects to WhatsApp through Twilio — it's not a direct Meta/WhatsApp Business API integration. Your WhatsApp Business number is managed through your Twilio account, which means migration involves disconnecting the Twilio-HappyFox bridge and reconnecting your number through your new platform's native WhatsApp integration.
Step 1: Understand Your Current Setup
In HappyFox, your WhatsApp integration routes messages through Twilio's WhatsApp Business API. Your WhatsApp Business phone number is registered with Twilio as the BSP (Business Solution Provider). Check your Twilio console to confirm which number is linked and review your active WhatsApp Sender. Your verified business name, display name, and message template approvals are stored in Meta Business Manager — they're independent of both HappyFox and Twilio.
Step 2: Disconnect WhatsApp from HappyFox
In HappyFox, remove or disable the WhatsApp channel configuration that connects to your Twilio number. This stops HappyFox from receiving messages routed through Twilio. If you plan to move to a platform with native WhatsApp support (direct Meta API, no Twilio middleman), you'll also need to release the number from Twilio in your Meta Business Manager so it can be registered with a different BSP or through embedded signup.
Step 3: Connect WhatsApp to Your New Platform
Platforms with native WhatsApp Business API support use Meta's embedded signup flow — a direct OAuth connection without needing a third-party BSP like Twilio. This simplifies the architecture (one fewer service to manage and pay for) and typically takes under 5 minutes. Your verified business status and display name carry over since they're stored in Meta's system. Message templates may need re-approval depending on the BSP change.
Step 4: Handle the Transition Gap
Between disconnecting from Twilio/HappyFox and connecting to your new platform, there's a brief window where incoming WhatsApp messages won't be routed. WhatsApp queues undelivered messages for up to 72 hours. Plan the switch during low-traffic hours to minimize impact. Once your new platform's webhook is active, queued messages should deliver normally.
Bonus: Eliminating Twilio Costs
With HappyFox, you pay both the HappyFox subscription and Twilio's per-message WhatsApp fees. Moving to a platform with native WhatsApp support eliminates the Twilio middleman cost entirely. You still pay Meta's WhatsApp Business API conversation fees, but you remove Twilio's markup and the complexity of managing a separate Twilio account.
Important: If you use the same Twilio number for SMS notifications in HappyFox (HappyFox supports sending SMS updates to customers), disconnecting Twilio may also affect SMS functionality. Audit all Twilio-dependent features before making changes.
