Export Your Data
Part of the Front migration guide
Learn how to export your customer data, conversation history, and contacts from Front before migrating to a new platform.
How to Export Your Data from Front
Front splits data exports across three separate mechanisms: self-service contact export from the Contact Manager, a support-team-assisted account data export for conversations, and analytics CSV exports for message-level reporting. There is no single "export everything" button.
Export Contacts (Self-Service)
You can export contacts directly from Front's Contact Manager. Navigate to Contacts in the left navigation menu, then click the Export button at the top right. You can choose to export Shared contacts, Private contacts, or Shared and auto-created contacts. The export generates a CSV file with names, emails, phone numbers, custom fields, and contact list associations. This is the only data you can export yourself without contacting Front.
Export Conversations and Messages (Requires Support)
To export conversation data, you must contact Front's Support team directly. You cannot do this on your own in the app. Submit a request with the line "Account data export request for {your company name}." You must have company admin permissions. Front will acknowledge your request within 72 hours. The export includes conversations, messages, discussions, comments, and attachments (EML format) from shared inboxes, delivered as CSV files organized by inbox in ~700MB chunks.
What Front Does NOT Export
The account data export explicitly excludes: conversations and attachments from individual inboxes (only shared inbox data is included), contact data (you must export contacts separately via the Contact Manager), message templates, and tags. Document your tags, macros, message templates, and automation rules manually — screenshot them or copy the text — before canceling your account.
Analytics CSV Exports (Professional Plan+)
If you're on Front's Professional plan or above, you can export analytics data by navigating to Analytics and clicking Export. The Messages export provides one line per message with 40 fields including message ID, conversation ID, direction, inbox, timestamps, response times, tags, assignee, and a 200-character message extract. The Conversations export gives per-conversation metrics. These exports are useful for analyzing team performance before switching, but are not available on the Starter plan.
API Export (Developer Option)
Front provides a Core API export template on GitHub that lets developers export conversations, messages, and attachments programmatically via the Front API. This requires technical resources to set up and run, but gives you more control over what gets exported. Use the Conversations API endpoints to list inboxes, search conversations, and download message data.
Tip: Start the account data export request early — the 72-hour acknowledgment window plus processing time means this step alone can take a week. Export your contacts separately via the Contact Manager on the same day you submit the support request to avoid delays.
