Migrate All Messaging Channels

Part of the Front migration guide

Complete guide to migrating all your messaging channels (WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, etc.) from Front.

Migrating All Channels from Front

Front supports email, Front Chat (live chat widget), SMS (via Twilio/Dialpad), Facebook Messenger, Instagram DMs, X (Twitter) DMs, Telegram (native), WhatsApp (paid add-on), Slack, and voice (via integrations like Aircall). It does not natively support Discord or Zalo.

Front Chat (Live Chat Widget)

Front Chat is Front's native live chat solution embedded via a JavaScript snippet on your website. To migrate, remove the Front Chat snippet from your website's HTML and replace it with your new platform's chat widget code. If you used Front Chat with a chatbot flow, document your bot logic — branching conditions, auto-responses, and handoff triggers — before removing it, as these configurations are not exportable.

Social Channels (Messenger, Instagram, X)

Facebook Messenger and Instagram connect via Meta OAuth through your Facebook Business page. Disconnect from Front under your workspace Channels settings, then reconnect the same Facebook/Instagram pages to your new platform. X (Twitter) DMs connect via the X API — disconnect from Front and set up the connection in your new platform. Your followers, page settings, and verification status remain intact since they're tied to the social platform accounts, not to Front.

Telegram

Front natively supports Telegram via bot token. The setup involves creating a shared or individual inbox, connecting the Telegram channel, and pasting your bot token. To migrate, note your bot token from Front's channel settings (or generate a new one via @BotFather on Telegram), disconnect from Front, and enter the token in your new platform. Connection is instant — no approval process needed.

SMS (Twilio/Dialpad)

Front handles SMS through third-party integrations like Twilio and Dialpad, not natively. If you're using a Twilio number, you can disconnect it from Front and reconnect via your Twilio account to a different platform. If Dialpad SMS is your source, check whether your new platform has a compatible integration or if you need to set up a different SMS provider.

Channels Front Doesn't Support

Front has no native integration for Discord or Zalo. If your customers use these platforms, switching to a platform with native support opens new communication channels without requiring third-party workarounds. Discord connects via a bot token and app ID (2-minute setup), and Zalo connects via OAuth — both provide real-time messaging without marketplace app dependencies.

The Single-Channel Starter Caveat

If you're on Front's Starter plan, you only have one channel type connected. Migration is simpler — just move that one channel. However, this is also a reason many teams switch: upgrading to omnichannel on Front requires jumping to Professional at $65/seat/month. A platform with flat-rate pricing gives you all channels from day one without a per-seat premium.

Migration order: Start with your lowest-volume channel to validate the setup. Migrate Telegram and social channels first (instant connection), then email (may involve DNS changes), and WhatsApp last (involves BSP considerations and potential downtime).
