Moving WhatsApp Business from Freshchat to Converge

WhatsApp Business API integration is available on Freshchat's Growth plan and above. Freshchat connects to WhatsApp through Meta's embedded signup flow as a Business Solution Provider (BSP).

Step 1: Identify Your WhatsApp Setup

In Freshchat, go to Settings > Messaging channels > WhatsApp to see your connected WhatsApp Business number and associated Meta Business account. Note whether you set up WhatsApp through Freshchat's embedded signup or connected an existing WhatsApp Business API number. Your WhatsApp Business verification status and phone number are tied to your Meta Business account, not to Freshchat.

Step 2: Document Your Templates

WhatsApp message templates (used for outbound/proactive messaging) are managed through Meta's Business Manager, not Freshchat directly. Note your approved template names and content. Freshchat's outbound messages API (/v2/outbound-messages/whatsapp) uses these templates — you'll want to reference the same templates from your new platform.

Step 3: Disconnect from Freshchat

Remove the WhatsApp channel from your Freshchat account under Settings > Messaging channels. This releases the webhook connection between Freshchat and your WhatsApp Business API number. Your phone number, Meta Business verification, and approved templates remain intact in your Meta Business Manager.

Step 4: Connect to Converge

In Converge, use the WhatsApp OAuth flow to connect your existing number. The process takes about 5 minutes. Your verified business status carries over since it's tied to your Meta Business account. Converge handles WhatsApp as reply-only (responding to customer-initiated conversations).

Important: Downtime Window

Between disconnecting from Freshchat and connecting to Converge, incoming WhatsApp messages won't be routed to any platform. Plan this switch during low-traffic hours to minimize the gap. The transition typically takes 15-30 minutes. Messages sent during this window are queued by WhatsApp and will be delivered once the new webhook is active.

Note: If you used Freshchat's campaign contacts feature to send proactive WhatsApp template messages, be aware that Converge focuses on reply-only WhatsApp support. For outbound WhatsApp campaigns, you'd need to manage templates directly through Meta's Business Manager or a separate tool.
