Migrate Your WhatsApp Conversations
Part of the Dixa migration guide
Step-by-step guide to moving your WhatsApp Business conversations and contacts from Dixa to a new platform.
Moving WhatsApp Business from Dixa
Dixa connects WhatsApp through Meta's embedded signup flow, and limits you to one WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) per Dixa organization. Your phone number and WABA are tied to your Meta Business Manager — not to Dixa — so they survive the switch.
Step 1: Review Your Dixa WhatsApp Setup
In your Dixa dashboard, go to Settings → Third-party messaging and find your WhatsApp numbers. Note which phone numbers are connected and which WABA they belong to. Dixa allows multiple WhatsApp numbers under a single WABA, so you may have several numbers to migrate. Verify you have admin access to the associated Meta Business Manager account at business.facebook.com.
Step 2: Understand Dixa's WhatsApp Limitations
Dixa's WhatsApp implementation has specific constraints worth noting: no outbound conversations (customer-initiated only), a 24-hour reply window after which messages won't be delivered, a 1,600-character message limit (Twilio-backed), and no survey option via WhatsApp. Dixa states that "number migration from one portfolio to another is not possible" — if you need to move a number between WABAs, the existing connection must be deleted and reconnected, which removes display name, templates, quality rating, and Official Business Account status.
Step 3: Disconnect from Dixa
In Settings → Third-party messaging, remove the WhatsApp number(s) from Dixa. Alternatively, manage the disconnection from Meta Business Manager's WhatsApp Manager → Phone numbers section. Since the number can only be linked to one platform at a time, it must be fully disconnected from Dixa before connecting elsewhere. Your verified business status and profile information are stored in Meta's system, not Dixa's.
Step 4: Connect to Your New Platform
Use your new platform's WhatsApp OAuth flow to reconnect the same phone number(s). Your verified business status and display name carry over since they're stored in Meta. WhatsApp message templates are also stored in Meta's system and remain available after switching. The connection typically takes 2–5 minutes once the number is released from Dixa.
Important: Plan the switchover during low-traffic hours. There will be a gap between disconnecting from Dixa and connecting to your new platform where incoming WhatsApp messages won't be routed. Dixa's documentation notes that deleting and reconnecting a number "results in downtime until the number is connected again." If you have multiple WhatsApp numbers under your WABA, migrate them one at a time to minimize disruption — handle each number's disconnect and reconnect individually before moving to the next.
