How to Connect Facebook Messenger to Converge

Converge Converge Team

Learn how to link your Facebook Page's Messenger to Converge so you can manage all Messenger conversations from one inbox.

1

Prepare your Facebook Page

Before connecting Messenger to Converge, make sure you have a Facebook Business Page with Messenger enabled. You cannot connect a personal Facebook profile — it must be a business page.

What you'll need:

  • Admin access to the Facebook Page
  • The page must have Messenger enabled (this is default for most pages)
  • A Facebook account with admin or editor permissions

Why Facebook Business Page: Facebook's Messenger API only works with business pages, not personal profiles. If you don't have a business page yet, you can create one for free from your Facebook account. Just click the menu in the top-right of Facebook and select "Create Page".

Multiple pages? If you manage multiple Facebook Pages, you can connect all of them to Converge. Each page will be a separate platform connection, but all messages will flow into your unified inbox. You'll be able to see which page each message came from.

2

Start the OAuth connection

In Converge, navigate to Settings → Platforms and click Messenger. You'll see information about the integration and a Connect Messenger button.

When you click Connect Messenger, Converge will redirect you to Facebook's official authorization page. You may need to log in with your Facebook account if you're not already logged in.

Use the right Facebook account: Make sure you're logging in with a Facebook account that has admin or editor permissions on the page you want to connect. If you log in with the wrong account, you won't see your page in the list.

Security note: Converge uses Facebook's official OAuth flow, which means we never see or store your Facebook password. Facebook handles the authentication and simply tells us which pages you've authorized us to access.

3

Select your Facebook Page and grant permissions

After logging in, Facebook will show you a list of business pages you manage. Choose the Facebook Page whose Messenger you want to connect to Converge.

Review the permissions: Facebook will show you a list of permissions Converge is requesting. These include:

  • Messenger — Read and respond to messages sent to your page
  • Pages messaging — Manage messaging for your page
  • Webhooks — Receive real-time notifications when new messages arrive

These permissions are required for Converge to receive and send messages on your behalf. We never access any other data from your page, such as page insights, ad accounts, or personal information.

Click Continue or Authorize to grant these permissions. You can revoke them at any time from Facebook's Business Integrations settings.

Connecting multiple pages: If you manage multiple pages, you can repeat this process for each page. Each page will appear as a separate connection in Converge's platform settings.

4

Verify the connection and test

You'll be redirected back to Converge, and you should see a success message confirming that Messenger is now connected. The connection status will update to show "Connected" with your Facebook Page name displayed.

Test the connection: The easiest way to verify everything works is to send a message to your Facebook Page from a personal Facebook account. Open Facebook, go to your page, and click "Message" or send a message via Messenger.

What you should see:

  • The message appears in your Converge inbox within 2-5 seconds
  • The customer profile shows their name and profile photo from Facebook
  • Any previous conversation history with that customer is visible
  • You can type a reply in Converge and it will be sent through Messenger

Common connection issues:

  • "Page not found" error: This usually means you don't have admin permissions on the page. Ask the page owner to grant you admin access, or log in with an account that has permissions.
  • Messages not appearing: Check that Messenger is enabled on your Facebook Page. Go to Page Settings → Messaging and make sure "Enable Messenger" is turned on.
  • Permissions error: If you see an error about permissions, disconnect and try connecting again. Sometimes Facebook's permission system needs a fresh authorization.

Success indicator: When a customer messages your Facebook Page and the conversation appears in Converge — and when you reply from Converge and the customer receives it in Messenger — your connection is fully working.

Pro tip: Messenger conversations often include rich media like images and stickers. Converge displays all of these, so you can see the full context of each conversation. You can also use quick replies for common questions to respond faster.
