Migration Guide for E-commerce Teams
Part of the Whelp migration guide
How e-commerce support teams can migrate from Whelp while maintaining customer service quality.
E-commerce Migration from Whelp
Whelp has notable e-commerce integrations — a native Shopify connection, Stripe and multiple payment processor integrations (Razorpay, Iyzico, PayTabs, Telr, Paylike), and the ability to send invoices directly from conversations. Migrating means replacing these integrations while maintaining support quality during your busiest sales periods.
Shopify and CRM Integration
Whelp's Shopify CRM integration syncs customer and order data into Whelp's CRM module. To migrate: disconnect the Shopify integration from Whelp's settings. If the Shopify connection also embedded the Whelp chat widget on your store, uninstall the Whelp app from your Shopify admin panel. Then install your new platform's Shopify app or embed its chat widget via the theme editor. Note that customer order data synced by Shopify into Whelp's CRM won't transfer — your new platform will pull fresh data from Shopify if it offers a similar integration, or you'll reference order details directly in Shopify's admin.
Payment and Invoice Features
Whelp integrates with Stripe and several regional payment processors (Razorpay, Iyzico, PayTabs, Telr, Paylike), and offers an in-conversation invoice sending feature. If your support team sends payment links or invoices during conversations, document this workflow. Most messaging-focused platforms don't include native payment integrations — you'll handle invoicing through your payment processor directly or via links shared in conversations. Your Stripe, Razorpay, or other payment accounts are independent of Whelp and remain active after disconnecting.
Chat Widget for Your Store
Replace Whelp's live chat widget on your e-commerce site with your new platform's widget. For Shopify: swap the app or update the theme code. For WooCommerce or other platforms: remove the Whelp JavaScript snippet and add the new widget code. Modern chat widgets offer lead capture, FAQ self-service, and visitor tracking — features that help e-commerce teams identify potential buyers and reduce support volume through self-service answers about shipping, returns, and sizing.
Chatbot for Product Questions
If you used Whelp's Dynamic Chatbot (Advanced plan, $79/seat/mo) to automate responses to product questions, shipping inquiries, or return policies, document each chatbot flow's trigger conditions and response paths. The shift from an autonomous chatbot to agent-assisted AI means agents will handle more conversations directly. Export your product FAQ content so you can configure it as widget FAQ entries or use it to improve AI suggestion quality on your new platform.
Peak Season Timing
Don't migrate during Black Friday, Cyber Monday, holiday sales, or your busiest sales period. Plan the switch during a calm period — typically mid-January through February or mid-summer. Give your team at least one full week of running both platforms in parallel. Migrate Instagram and WhatsApp first (key e-commerce channels), then the website widget, and save email for last. If you sell in Southeast Asian markets, your new platform may offer Zalo support — a channel Whelp doesn't have — giving you access to Vietnamese customers.
Tip: If Whelp's Shopify integration synced customer data (order history, customer tags, purchase amounts), export what you need from Whelp's CRM before disconnecting. This data won't transfer automatically to your new platform.
